Harmony 6 Express Opening Dates

Harmony 6 Express usually opens in late November or early December — typically five to fourteen days after Whistler Mountain’s opening day, and ahead of Peak Express and Symphony Express. It opened on 27 November 2024 and 10 December 2025.

Where Harmony 6 Express sits in the opening order

Harmony 6 Express is the first properly alpine lift to spin on Whistler Mountain most seasons. It loads at around 1,582 m and tops out at 2,107 m, which puts its upper terminal well above treeline and firmly in the elevation band that holds early-season snow.

That altitude is why it opens early relative to the rest of the alpine. It is not, however, a day-one lift. Whistler Mountain’s opening-day package is consistently built around the Whistler Village Gondola, Emerald 6 Express and Franz’s Chair, with Big Red Express and the Creekside Gondola joining in a normal year. Harmony follows once patrol has enough base and enough snowpack stability to run avalanche control across Harmony Bowl, Harmony Ridge, Sun Bowl and the Burnt Stew side.

The order in a typical season: Village Gondola, Emerald and Franz’s on day one, then Big Red and Creekside, then Harmony, then Peak Express, and Symphony last.

How much snow does Harmony 6 Express need?

Using settled snow depth recorded at the Roundhouse weather station at 1,835 m on the day the lift opened.

SeasonOpenedSnow on the groundConditions
2023-2421 Dec 202375 cmLowest depth on record for Harmony
2024-2527 Nov 2024118 cm−6 °C, cold and settled
2025-2610 Dec 2025106 cm

Total snowfall turns out to be a poor guide — Harmony opened on 255 cm of season snowfall one year and roughly 71 cm the next. Settled snow depth is the number that matters. Measured at the Roundhouse station at 1,835 m, Harmony has opened with between 75 cm and 118 cm on the ground.

That makes sense physically. Patrol needs continuous, consolidated coverage over the rocks and gullies of Harmony Bowl before they can complete avalanche control and drop the ropes. A metre of settled snow does that; three metres of snowfall that keeps melting and re-freezing does not.

As a working rule: once alpine snow depth passes roughly 75 cm, Harmony becomes realistic.

Rain is the enemy, not lack of snow

What delays the alpine is not a quiet November — it is a warm one. In 2023-24 there were 20 days of rain at 1,835 m before New Year, totalling 252 mm, plus 40 days above freezing. Snow fell, then washed away or froze into crust, and the alpine stayed shut deep into January.

Compare 2016-17: zero rain days in the alpine before January and a single day above freezing. The snow that fell stayed, and the alpine opened early.

How often does Harmony actually run?

Worth knowing before you plan around it: Harmony closes fairly regularly mid-season for wind and avalanche control. Whistler Blackcomb’s own status records show it shut on Christmas Day 2023, on 3 January 2024, and again on 22 January 2026 — all peak-season days. An open lift on the trail map is not a guarantee on the morning.

What to expect for 2026-27

Whistler Blackcomb has confirmed a target opening day of Friday 20 November 2026, conditions permitting.

There is one significant caveat this season. NOAA has issued an El Niño Advisory giving a greater than 90 per cent chance of a very strong El Niño through winter 2026-27, with a real possibility of the strongest event in the record dating back to 1950.

El Niño winters have historically started slowly at Whistler. Across the last thirteen seasons, El Niño Novembers delivered an average of 33 cm of snow at Roundhouse against 109 cm in La Niña Novembers, and roughly half the settled snow depth by the end of November.

Two things stop that being a prediction. El Niño mainly delays the start rather than ruining the season — by New Year the snowfall gap narrows considerably. And the strongest El Niño in our records, 2015-16, saw Whistler open early on 19 November with 332 cm down by New Year. Treat it as a tendency worth planning around, not a forecast.

Treat every date on this page as a planning window rather than a fixed commitment. Lift openings are decided on the morning, on the basis of snow depth, avalanche control work, wind and visibility.

When does Harmony 6 Express close?

Harmony runs to the end of Whistler Mountain’s season. Recent closing days have been 18 April 2022, 16 April 2023, 21 April 2025 and 19 April 2026 — so mid-to-late April is the expectation. Spring skiing then continues on Blackcomb alone into mid-to-late May.

Common questions

When does Harmony Chair open at Whistler?

Harmony usually opens in late November or early December, typically five to fourteen days after Whistler Mountain’s opening day. It opened on 27 November 2024 and 10 December 2025.

Does Harmony open before or after Peak Chair?

Before. Harmony is lower, less exposed to wind and needs less avalanche control, so it consistently opens first. The gap was eight days in 2024-25 and one day in 2025-26.

How much snow does Harmony Chair need to open?

Settled snow depth matters more than total snowfall. Harmony has opened with between 75 cm and 118 cm of snow on the ground at 1,835 m. Once alpine depth passes roughly 75 cm, Harmony becomes realistic.

Can I get to Harmony without riding Peak Chair?

Yes. Harmony is reached from the Roundhouse area at the top of the Whistler Village Gondola or Big Red Express. No Peak Express required.
