Olympic Chair Opening Dates

Olympic Chair usually opens within the first two to three weeks of the season, but not always on opening day. Whistler Blackcomb’s status records show it closed on 7 December 2023 and running by 21 December that year. If you are bringing a first-timer in the opening fortnight, check before you travel.

Where Olympic Chair sits in the opening order

Olympic Chair is the beginner pod at Olympic Station, serving gentle green terrain on the mid-mountain. It is the oldest chairlift on Whistler Mountain, a 1980 Yan triple, shortened in 1989.

It is the one lift where the usual logic reverses. Alpine lifts wait for snow depth and stability; Olympic waits for enough cover on low-angle, heavily-used beginner runs, which take a surprising amount of snow to become safe for people who cannot yet turn reliably. It is also not part of the resort’s headline terrain package, so it rarely gets a mention in opening-day announcements.

The result is that Olympic can lag the marquee lifts by a couple of weeks, which matters enormously if beginners are the reason for your trip.

What Olympic Chair needs to open

Beginner terrain needs more cover than people expect. Low-angle runs get scraped down quickly, and the resort will not open a learning zone with rocks showing. Olympic also sits below the elevation that holds the earliest snow.

If you are booking lessons for the first two weeks of the season, contact the resort before you travel.

What to expect for 2026-27

Whistler Blackcomb has confirmed a target opening day of Friday 20 November 2026, conditions permitting.

Treat every date on this page as a planning window rather than a fixed commitment. Lift openings are decided on the morning, on the basis of snow depth, avalanche control work, wind and visibility.
