Whistler Village Gondola Opening Dates
The Whistler Village Gondola runs from Whistler Mountain’s opening day, every season without exception. For 2026-27 that means Friday 20 November 2026, conditions permitting. It is the first lift to open and among the last to close.
Where Whistler Village Gondola sits in the opening order
The Village Gondola is the main artery from Whistler Village to the Roundhouse at 1,835 m. It appears in every opening-day lift list the resort has ever published, and it also runs through summer for sightseeing and the bike park.
The question worth asking is not whether it will be open, but whether you will be able to ski down from the top. In thin early seasons the resort requires a mandatory download, meaning you ride the gondola back down at the end of the day rather than skiing the lower runs. That was the case on opening day in both 2018-19 and 2023-24.

What Whistler Village Gondola needs to open
The gondola itself does not need snow. What needs snow is the ski-out back to the village, which sits at 675 m and is the last terrain on the mountain to fill in. Expect a download requirement in the first week or two of most seasons, and reliably so in a slow start.
What to expect for 2026-27
Whistler Blackcomb has confirmed a target opening day of Friday 20 November 2026, conditions permitting.
Treat every date on this page as a planning window rather than a fixed commitment. Lift openings are decided on the morning, on the basis of snow depth, avalanche control work, wind and visibility.
When does Whistler Village Gondola close?
The Village Gondola closes with Whistler Mountain, in recent years between 14 and 21 April. It then reopens for summer sightseeing, typically from late May.
Note that the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola and Creekside Gondola close on the same day as Whistler Mountain, while Blackcomb continues spring skiing for roughly another month.
